Bear species' habitat is very wide; for example, bears inhabit forested areas in hill and mountainous regions. Different types of Bears can be found in different types of habitat. Asiatic Black Bears inhabit the eastern Asia, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Taiwan and Vietnam. On the whole the Bears prefer thickly forested areas in the hill and mountain regions, or tropical forests below alpine levels.
Bears Photos - Diet
Usually Bears have to search their food and therefore they require a lot of energy. The animals feed on vegetation that is about 75% of their food intake. As a matter of fact, Bears are classified as carnivores, but they eat meat rarely. Their usual food is: berries, flowers, grasses and sedges, herbs, tubers and roots, and nuts of all kinds, twigs, buds, leaves, fruit, corn, and plant shoots. Some times Bears also climb trees in search of birds' eggs, honey, bees and larvae.
They hunt fish in the rivers and eat small mammals such as porcupines. Bears spend most of the wintertime in a so-called winter sleep. It is known that during this "sleep"
that they loose their energy and therefore, when they wake up from this "sleep",
they are very hungry and require a lot of food. When they wake up they will even eat insects and grubs that are located in the rotting logs. This period of "sleep" for bears is also called "incomplete hibernation."
